how i teach harmonica lessons

I started playing harp in 1965. I'm also a classically trained pianist and composer, and I've played for years in jazz, blues, and rock bands. I play blues harp, rock harp, and in Appalachian and Irish music string bands. If you want to play with recorded music, in a band, or as a soloist, I can help. One great way to learn is to immitate a teacher and play by example. I also use written notation for harmonica that others have developed over the years as an aid to remembering songs and riffs. Pictured is my Harmonica Lesson #1 diagram. Some students prefer playing by ear, others like to use written ideas. I use both and customize my teaching so you can make sense of it. I'll accompany you on piano while I show you harmonica riffs. You can get a feel for playing with a band. If you don't have questions about blues theory, I've got some for you. Understanding what you're doing makes you a better player. For most styles, you'll take home a CD that you can practice with and also some notation or harp tabs.
